Education

The area in which Shashwat works has one of the lowest female literacy rates. A large number of girls either never went to school, or have dropped out. The organisation is making efforts to impart education to these girls through a number of strategic interventions.

Health

Health interventions centre round children and mothers so as to increase their longevity. In rural areas a number of children die because of diarrhoea and mothers die because of lack of facilities for deliveries. The interventions include promotion of zinc for diarrhoea management and training of ASHAs.

Livelihood

Agriculture is the mainstay of livelihood in rural areas. After Green Revolution, the time is to diversify in agriculture so the farmers get maximum profit from the agricultural operations. But there is a large section of population, which does not own agricultural land. Livelihood interventions also cover them.

Disability

Mainstreaming people with physical disability with the development process is a real challenge. Shashwat is addressing the issue of inclusion of disabled people in development process with rights-based approach and has taken up the issue with the community and government alike.
