Responses Varied, But Success At Last

While implementing diarrhoea management through ORS and zinc therapy project, response of doctors, paramedics and chemists was varied.

For example, visit to Dr Manmohan of Tendua village in Phool Behad block of Khiri district, doubling as gram pradhan of the panchayat of the same name, could materialise only on fourth visit by the project staff. During the ‘successful meeting’ he had tonnes of questions and agreed to prescribe the therapy reluctantly. Earlier he would simply not entertain the project staff.

On the other hand there is Dr Naseem Ahmad in Seesauna village of the same block. He readily agreed to give therapy when he was told that the therapy prevented recurrence of disease in the next three months after the treatment.

Incidentally, Dr Naseem Ahmad treated a few children who were being treated by other doctors and their condition was not changing.

Such stories abound all over the project area. There is sea change in the approach of doctors, paramedics like ANMs, ASHAS, etc., and chemists. Needless to repeat that in vast rural areas it is quakes and chemists who are primary health service providers and they need to be made aware of such therparies.
