Promoting Education amongst Girls

promoting-education-amongst-girlsOne of the priority areas of Shashwat is promotion of education amongst girls, especially mainstreaming of girls in elementary education. The programme focuses on mainstreaming dropout and out of school children in the formal education system through working and mobilising the community members around the issue of education.

Since the year 2008 Shashwat is running 10 Bridge Education Centres in 10 such villages and hamlets where concentration of dropouts and out of school children is comparatively high as compared to other villages. Ten Remedial Coaching Centre for the Adolescent Girls in the age group of 12-18 years are also running since the same year.

For their overall development, adolescent girls have been organized into Kishori Samuhs (groups of adolescent girls). At present there are22Kishori Samuhs with a total 275 membersThe girls are emerging as young leaders and facilitators of change as they are creating awareness on education and linking non-school going young girls to education. The group members have so far made more than 1,500 girls literate. They are also tackling health issues of adolescent girls.
