Livelihood
Multi-strategic interventions to address livelihood
Shashwat’s livelihood interventions focus on three key areas: agriculture, nurturing self-help groups (SHGs) and vocational training for adolescent girls who have dropped out of school.
In agriculture, Shashwat has been a partner of the Uttar Pradesh Diversified Agriculture Support Project (UPDASP) in Firozabad district. The intervention seeks to promote sustainable and diversified farming practices across the state’s varied agro-ecological zones.
Shashwat has been nurturing women’s SHGs at the panchayat level for their socio-economic empowerment. Members receive training on financial management, credit limits and record-keeping. SHGs have become centres of learning where women discuss education, health, NREGA, BPL entitlements and local governance.
To support self-reliance among girls and young women, two vocational training centres have been providing training in tailoring and life skills. Each centre currently trains 30 learners, helping them build confidence and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
